Goyard

Goyard , the French trunk and leather goods maker, was established in Paris in 1853.

Edmond Goyard, succeeding his father François Goyard’s work, turned the store on Rue Saint Honorré into an increasingly elitist luxury brand with an international clientele. He opened four branch stores and laid the foundations for the brand as we know it today. You can easily spot a Goyard bag by its emblematic Goyardine canvas, created by Edmond goyard.

He partnered with his eldest son Robert, and together they ran E. Goyard Aîné et Fils (E.Goyard Elder and Son). Robert followed his father’s footsteps and ran the business from 1937 to 1979. In 1998, Jean-Michel Signoles, a keen collector of Goyard items, took over from the Goyard family.

Do you know that the classic Saint Louis bag was initially designed as a beach bag? Its name is a reference to King Louis IX of France, known as Saint Louis.

About Goyard Bags

What makes Goyard bags so special?

Goyard bags are renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship, hand-painted Chevron pattern, and exclusive heritage dating back to 1853. The brand combines luxury with discretion — no flashy logos, just timeless elegance. Each bag is handmade in France, using natural materials like Goyardine canvas, which is durable yet lightweight.

How can I authenticate a Goyard bag?

Authentic Goyard bags have distinct features like the signature hand-painted Chevron pattern, precise stitching, and a discreet heat-stamped logo inside. The bags do not have serial numbers but come with a handwritten receipt from the boutique. Be wary of obvious flaws in pattern alignment or poor quality paint, those are red flags.

The Saint Louis Tote Bags have a serial number which is embossed on the leather strap that attaches the pochette to the bag.

Are Goyard bags worth the investment?

Absolutely. Their rarity and timeless design make Goyard bags hold their value exceptionally well. Unlike many luxury brands, Goyard doesn’t mass-produce, so their bags remain coveted collector’s items, often appreciating over time.

About Vintage Goyard Bags

At Still In Fashion, we specialize in offering authentic vintage Goyard bags, carefully curated for quality and condition.

How do I know if a vintage Goyard bag is authentic?

Vintage Goyard bags still have the hand-painted Chevron canvas and signature craftsmanship. Look for patina on the leather handles, natural aging on the canvas, and consistent brush strokes. Authentic vintage pieces often show subtle wear but maintain structural integrity. Professional authentication is highly recommended.

What should I look for when buying a vintage Goyard bag?

Condition is key. Check for wear on handles and edges, color fading, and whether the canvas is intact. Vintage bags might not come with original dust bags or receipts, so verify provenance if possible. Also, be aware of reproductions—vintage Goyard is a niche market, and demand can lead to fakes.

Can vintage Goyard bags be restored?

Yes, with care. Professional restoration can clean and preserve the canvas and recondition the leather handles. However, over-restoring can reduce the bag’s vintage charm and value, so it’s best to opt for gentle conservation rather than heavy refurbishment.

Are Goyard tote bags practical for daily use?
