BB, PM, MM, GM, NM…
WHAT THE LOUIS VUITTON ACRONYMS ACTUALLY TELL YOU.
How to understand the acronyms of Louis Vuitton.
Louis Vuitton uses several acronyms to size many of their bags.
Here is a short guide to what some of the acronyms stand for. However , bare in mind, that the Alma PM doesn’t necessarily have the same size as a Montaigne PM handbag.
BB – Baby Bandoulière ?
What the BB actually stands for no-one really knows (apart from the insiders at Louis Vuitton’s HQs).
But, as BB bags often are small and have a detachable shoulder strap, we believe BB stands for “bebe bandouliere” which means “baby shoulder”.
PM – Petit Modèle
Petit Models means small model in French, but a PM sized bag can be anything from a Medium to a Large sized bag.
MM – Moyen Modèle
Moyen Modèle stands for Medium sized bag. The MM and PM are the most popular sizes for Louis Vuitton handbags (bags with handles and not shoulder strap(s)), and the MM seems to be the most popular size for most shoulder tote bags like the highly sought after Neverfull.
GM – Grande Modèle
Grande Modèle signifies Large model. Many of Louis Vuitton GM bags are considered extra-large bag, as they can be “over-sized”.. Some GM bags can even be used as light travel bags due to their great capacity to hold all your belongings.
and then we have the
NM – New Modèle
that has nothing to do with the sizing.
NM simply stands for ‘new model’ and is used for vintage or older versions of Louis Vuitton bags that are reintroduced to the market and are slightly modified from their original design.
