A signature pattern for many of Dior’s leather goods, however particularly the iconic Lady Dior Bag, is the padded cannage leather pattern.
Monsieur Dior found inspiration to decorate his home from two historic periods; the 18th Century and La Belle Epoque.
The inspiration for the cannage leather has its origins in Napoléon III’s chairs, Christian Dior once used to welcome his Haute couture clients in his mansion and atelier in 30 rue Montaigne. Today the chairs can be found in man of the elegant Dior Boutiques around the world.
Cannage stitching is a geometrical pattern of squares and diagonals borrowed from the braiding work of vegetable fiber, the Dior cane made in quilting is omnipresent in many of the house’s creations.
